Setting up POP email in Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac

Description

Microsoft Outlook 2011 is the version of Outlook available for computers running Apple's OSX (if you have a Mac, this is probably you).

To begin, open Microsoft Outlook 2011.

Click Tools on the OSX Menu Bar, then click Accounts....

In the Accounts window, click the small + to add a new account.

Remove the tick from the Configure automatically checkbox. This will expand the settings box and allow

Linux Mailbox Settings

This will be provided by your ISP

This will depend on your ISP.

 

Your outgoing server will be provided by the same company that provides your internet connection (your ISP). There is a list of SMTP servers for common ISP's available here.

Once you have entered the information correctly, as above, click Add Account.

You will now be back at the Accounts window, with the newly-created account selected. Click Advanced....

Select whether you'd like to leave a copy of your mail on the server.

Important Note:

This is not the normal configuration for a POP account. POP mail is designed to be deleted from the server once it has been downloaded to your computer. As such, the system is not designed to support large mailboxes on the server and by leaving mail on the server, you risk your mailbox becoming unstable if it grows too large.

As such, we strongly suggest unticking Leave a copy of each message on server, or at least setting a time limit for storage in the 'Delete copies from the server' option.
